Article last updated 6 December 2024.

The judges’ comments were that they “wanted to recognise Sophie’s strong societal impact, especially as Chair of the Investor Coalition on Food Policy. She’s not afraid to challenge government and makes good use of her communications skills to educate and inform.”

We’d also like to congratulate Greenbank Investment Director Corinne Bathgate, who was a finalist in the same category. Other shortlisted colleagues were Emma Saunders of Rathbones Investment Management in the category of ‘Fund Selector of the Year’ and Sally Hoang from Rathbones Asset Management in the ‘Rising Star of the Year Award (small to medium firms)’ category.

The Awards which celebrate “the best of the best in women in investment” are now in their eighth year and continue to play a much-needed role in steering the investment and fund management industry towards a more diverse and inclusive investment environment, so well done to all the finalists!

Sustainability update February 2025

2025 has so far seen a significant shift in the political backdrop for ESG and sustainable investing. While some financial institutions pull back from climate initiatives amid increasing political opposition, a rollback on DEI programmes emphasises the need for diversity, equity and inclusion to evolve beyond good intentions. The UK and US have refused to sign a declaration on “inclusive and sustainable” artificial intelligence (AI) following the landmark AI Safety Summit, and the EU’s Omnibus proposal to reduce the scope of regional sustainability reporting has been criticised as a deregulation setback.
