The rapid increase in the development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) brings with it associated risks and opportunities. Our next Green Shoots webinar will focus on the impact of AI on human rights, introducing this complex issue whilst also busting some of the myths.

We will also look at how companies developing and deploying AI technologies can be assessed to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance.

Greenbank’s Kate Elliot, head of ESI research, and Katherine Farr, assistant ESI researcher, will be joined by two external speakers, Daniel Leufer, senior policy analyst, Access Now, and Zak Rogoff, research manager, Ranking Digital Rights.

Kate Elliot

Head of Ethical, Sustainable and Impact Research, Greenbank

Kate is head of Greenbank’s ethical, sustainable and impact research team. She oversees the development and implementation of the team’s sustainability assessment framework, analysing investments against a range of environmental, social and governance criteria. She also monitors emerging sustainability themes, sets priorities for Greenbank’s stewardship and engagement activities and has developed the team’s systems for the measurement and reporting of portfolio sustainability and impact performance. She joined Rathbones in 2007 after graduating from the University of Bristol with a masters in Philosophy and Mathematics.

Daniel Leufer

Senior Policy Analyst, Access Now

Daniel is a senior policy analyst at Access Now’s Brussels office. His work focuses on the impact of emerging technologies on digital rights, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI), facial recognition, biometrics, and augmented and virtual reality. While he was a Mozilla Fellow, he developed aimyths.org, a website that gathers resources to tackle myths and misconceptions about AI. He has a PhD in Philosophy from KU Leuven in Belgium and was previously a member of the Working Group on Philosophy of Technology at KU Leuven. He is also a member of the OECD Working Group on AI Futures.

Zak Rogoff

Research Manager, Ranking Digital Rights

Zak Rogoff is research manager at Ranking Digital Rights, a nonprofit which scores tech and telecom companies on their respect for privacy and freedom of expression. He specialises in issues surrounding AI, targeted advertising, and content moderation. Rogoff advises impact investors and companies, and supports civil society organisations around the world in adapting Ranking Digital Rights' open methodology to hold local businesses to account. Rogoff has bylines and appearances in Tech Policy Press, Democracy Journal, Al Jazeera, and the scientific journal Nature. Before becoming a researcher, Rogoff worked as a digital rights campaigner on Internet shutdowns and intellectual property reform. He holds a Masters in Communication, Culture and Technology from Georgetown University and a BS in Robotics Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He has read many privacy policies.

Katherine Farr

Assistant Ethical, Sustainable and Impact Researcher, Greenbank

Katherine joined Greenbank in 2020 and sits in the ethical, sustainable and impact research team. She is responsible for analysing investments against a range of environmental, social and governance criteria as well as working on engagement projects. Katherine leads Greenbank’s digital rights engagement workstream which involves collaboration with the Investor Alliance on Human Rights and aims to improve digital human rights across relevant portfolio companies. She holds a BSc in Anthropology from Durham University and a CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing.
